Vladimir Vutkarev, 11 months

Diagnosis: congenital heart defect, atrioventricular canal. Severe persistent pulmonary hypertension.

February 21, 2012 about 16.00 Vovochka Vutkareva died. The bright memory to the boy!

In the fall 2011, we received a help request from the Vutkarev family from Sociteni village, Ialoveni district. Their son Vladimir was born on February 16, 2011 with the congenital heart disease and Down syndrome. Here is what Vladimir’s mom wrote in her letter: “In two days after Vladimir was born, we were sent to the Intensive Care Unit at the Mother and Child Centre (MCC) where we had X-rays, an echogram, and blood transfusion. We stayed at the ICU for five days, and then were transferred to the newborn pathology department. The doctors began preparations for the surgery at the Republican Hospital. We went there on August 29th. At the hospital, my son suddenly developed fever and we were sent back to the MCC on September, 2nd. We stayed at the MCC until September, 7th and then were transferred to the department of pulmonology. Our child is on the first-degree disability. Since birth, he has been under constant medical supervision and medication”.

Vladimir was qualified for the surgery at the Bakulev Research Centre for Cardiovascular Surgery in Russia. The cost of the surgery was 283,100 Rub. NGO Save Life had paid 143,000 Rub for the surgery and additional 30,000 Rub for 10 days treatment of pneumonia at the Centre. The Russian charity fund Gulfstream contributed the same amount. After examination, Russian doctors advised that one surgery would not be enough and another surgery will be needed. Vutkarevs stayed at the Bakulev Centre the entire month and came back to Moldova on December 27th. Vladimir is feeling much better now. Since coming back home, he has gained 800 gr. of weigh (at his 8 months, he weighed just 4 kg. and looked like a two-month child).

The second surgery to fully correct Vladimir’s heart defect could be scheduled for as early as March 28, 2012 at the Bakulev Centre. The cost of the second surgery is 463,250 Rub (about 11,500 Euro). This is an enormous amount of money for Vutkarevs. His dad has no permanent job and the family only receives 600 Leu (about $50) in government assistance.

Dear all, unfortunately, we have a very sad news. Today, February 21, about 16.00 Vovochka Vutkareva died. The bright memory to the boy!

Most recently, he was in hospital with pneumonia and was discharged a few days ago. However, the child behaved nervously and today his mother Elena took him for a consultation to the family doctor. The doctor examined Vova and sent home, saying that tomorrow he should return back for hospitalization. As soon as Elena crossed the threshold of the house, the kid looked at his mother for the last time and died.
