Stiwin Moldovanu, 1 month

Stiwin Moldovanu was born on January 31st 2015. When being pregnant in 30th week his mother had a viral infection. This has led to the pathological development of the baby. After birth the set diagnosis was : esophageal atresia and spine column anomaly. The baby-boy has gone through the operation in the first days of his life. Unfortunately during this intervention doctors could not connect 2 ends of the esophagus, as the distance between them was too big- 3 cm. After the operation, Stiwin could be fed only through the probe. The baby boy had spent 10 days in the resuscitation department. As he started to develop pneumonia, he was connected to the assisted respiration device. Emanuela Nistor, 4 months

Emanuela is just four months old (she was born on November 18, 2014). Those have been four months of struggle for life. Emanuela was born with a ventricular septal defect (congenital heart disease). Her parents had hoped for a miracle till the last moment. During her mother’s 24th week of pregnancy an ultrasonic scanning revealed an anomaly in the baby’s heart development but there still was a chance that she would be born healthy. The miracle did not happen. Now Emanuela needs an urgent surgery at the Kiev cardiology centre. The cost of the surgery is EUR 3 699 (~ 74 320 MDL). Until the operation Emanuela is staying under supervision of physicians. She is gaining weight very slowly and today her weight only is 4 200 kg. Details…

Eugen Hamitchi, 2 years old

Eugen was just 1.5 y.o when his parents realized that the boy did not respond to sounds. Doctor audiologist diagnosed Deep Bilateral Hypoacusis. Eugen do not hear anything. The only chance for him is a cochlear transplant. Implant for one ear costs 18 000 USD, plus the cost of the operation is 3850 USD. Doctors strongly recommend to carry out this procedure as soon as possible, so that the child did not have developmental delays. Eugen is an intelligent and curious boy, but he can’t go into the kindergarden because of problems in communication with his peers. Parents asked us for help. The family has two children; the mother can’t work, because she is caring for Eugen. His dad is working as a car mechanic. To raise the necessary funds for the treatment is simply not possible. Yura Strugari, 2 years old

Diagnosis: cataracts in both eyes. Yura Strugari has an inherited eye disease. Both his mother and older sister are visually handicapped. There is no father in the family, the mother can see almost nothing, and the family’s financial situation is very difficult. Yura needs a surgery for removing the cataracts from both his eyes. The cost of the surgery is 34 060 lei. The boy’s mother is asking for help hoping that her son will get the chance to see, to live a full life. Modern ophthalmology is able to treat cataract very well. Yura really has good chances to make a complete recovery. It is within our possibility to help a two-year-old child see the world as it is and not in blurred gray outline. Details…

Victor Lungu, 8 years old

Victor was born on 16.10.2006. Now he is nine and he looks at the world through thick glasses. He has visual impairment (2nd group). Victor inherited his eyesight problems from his father. His vision becomes weaker every day. His diagnosis is dislocation of the crystalline lens, amblyopia, mixed eye etiology. With such a diagnosis the boy needs a surgery for removing the crystalline lens. The cost of the surgery is 35 150 lei. Victor does not give in to his sickness, he tries leading a normal life. He goes to school. His favorite discipline is drawing. His favourite pastime is playing with his kittens. The boy’s parents have contacted us for help. Victor’s father himself has visual impairment (3rd group), his mother has no job. They live on the boy’s and the father’s disability pensions. There are two kids in the family. Details…

Ionela Caus, 11 years old

Ionela was born on the 21st May 2003. The girl was born prematurely, on the 30th week of the mother’s pregnancy. Immediately after the birth the baby was diagnosed with congenital obstructive hydrocephalus. At 3 months Ionela underwent her first surgery, and at one year she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Since her birth the girl has passed through many surgeries. She needs regular operations for reducing the spasticity (the constraint, the supertension) of her muscles – Ulsibat-method operations which are now performed in Moldova’s Terra Med clinic by Russian surgeons. We are planning to have four operations which we hope will help the girl start moving in the future.
